Metal Powders

We produce high-performance metal and alloy powders through water, gas & air atomization techniques for P/M, diamond tools, welding, brazing, catalysts, coatings, decorative finishes and other applications.

How We Engineer Metal Powders

Melting

Metal (often in an electrode form) is melted, usually in a vacuum induction furnace, to a superheated liquid state.

Atomization

The molten stream flows into an atomization chamber where it encounters high-velocity jets of inert gas.

Breakup

The gas jets create instabilities, rapidly disintegrating the liquid stream into fine droplets.

Solidification

Droplets travel through the chamber, cooling and solidifying into solid powder particles while maintaining their chemical composition (pre-alloyed).

Collection

The powder is collected in a dry, inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation.
